Q1: On the Calendar, what does the half moon symbol mean? I am sure I am just missing it in the rules and about to be very embarrassed here...
Q2: I believe the rules say to pick an action, then mark days off on the calendar depending on that action. As you mark days off, deal with calendar icons, eat and rest. On Page 12, Step 12 of setting up: It says to "put a cross through the first day". That means we do not get any actions for Day 1 and merely cross the day out, eat, rest and deal with the two calendar icons (guild pot and the cross. Is that correct?

A1: The half moons will note be used until an event unlocks them. Until then, you only need to concentrate on the symbols with dates that have a blue background.
A2: The first day is checked off, but you do not spend rations for that day. It sets the game ready for play. You do not perform the two icons for the 1st day in set up, either. These are skipped. From then on each subsequent year the icons are checked as per the rules.
