So I'm playing World Builder and tamed a beast companion and it occurs to me, should I be sharing rations day by day to keep my companion alive, just like with mounts?
If I give it one ration per day (that is, per AP) I will obviously burn through my rations in half the time.
Or do we presume the beast companion will fend for itself somehow?
I did review the references to dealing with beasts on page 13, allowing them to use their abilities their level times per hex, and also page 64, the event of running into an animal trainer to acquire beasts. But no mention of feeding them.
PS I don't imagine I can add saddlebags to my beast to carry extra rations either.
PPS fully aware of the difference between rations and food, I had not worried about feeding my beast companions during quests before, that is "when the clock strikes 12" (so to speak), I only spent one food on my PC. So during quests, whether playing WB or not, should we be giving food to our beast companion?
Thank you for the quick reply, as always.
I had considered that on days when my adventurer hunts, traps, gathers, and fishes we could assume the beast is foraging for itself, but on other days, like travel, settlements, scouting, etc., I'd need to provide it with food.
Also, how about if I flag down a cart, might it be harder if I have a beast?
And if I get a mount will they get along?
Ha ha. I think I’m over thinking this!
I will keep it simple for now and assume the beast successfully forages on its own, travels quietly along side any carts I flag down, and does not disturb any mounts I acquire.
PS for full disclosure, I took my adventurer from The Rune Forge, who tamed a Cave Cub, and had him “travel across the sea to new lands” and started world builder with him. His first order of business was to hunt and fish to gain rations. Worried about feeding my little Cave Cub prompted my ponderings. I think it needs a name!
Love this game!
It's assumed that the beasts will find food for themselves and forage during the adventurer's downtime; however, I can see some interesting house rules for this being created. Beasts could need to make a test somehow to feed, which could create some mishaps; such as, being attacked by a monster, being poisoned, or getting lost from the adventure and create a side quest just to find each other etc.
